TLDR: James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has overtaken Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer to become the fifth highest-grossing film in IMAX history, collecting $184.1 million in just 47 days.

IMAX Dominance
Avatar 3 narrowly edged out Oppenheimer, which earned $184 million from IMAX screenings during its theatrical run. While the film is approaching the $200 million IMAX milestone, achieving that target may prove challenging as it loses screens to new releases.
The film has dropped to sixth place in the domestic box office rankings during its seventh weekend, a natural decline after more than a month in theaters.
Worldwide Box Office Performance
After seven weekends, Avatar: Fire and Ash has accumulated:
- North America: $386.1 million
- International: $1.02 billion
- Worldwide Total: $1.4 billion
The film currently ranks as the 18th highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, having surpassed Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is now closing in on the all-time top 15 grossers globally.
Avatar: Fire and Ash was released on December 19, 2024.
