Hong Kong drama Ciao UFO dominated the night with three wins: Best Picture, Best Director for Patrick Leung, and Best Supporting Actress for Michelle Wai.
Alex To claimed Best Supporting Actor for Sons Of The Neon Night, while Taiwanese actress Shu Qi won Best New Director for her debut film Girl.
Leung, 68, was honored for playing mysterious crime boss The Shadow in The Shadow’s Edge opposite Jackie Chan. He said he didn’t expect to win, believing he wasn’t the film’s lead.
At 64, To called winning his first-ever movie award after 41 years in entertainment “magical.”
Meanwhile, Wai was so thrilled by her win that she shared her phone number on stage to attract more acting opportunities, saying she’d take a pay cut for the right role.
Shu Qi, 49, jokingly called herself “the oldest new director” after losing count of how many Best New Director awards she’s received for Girl.
