The Unexpected Call from Christopher Nolan

Travis Scott has revealed how an unexpected phone call from Christopher Nolan led to his role in The Odyssey. Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the rapper recalled seeing the name “Chris” appear on his phone before Nolan asked whether he would be interested in acting in the Greek epic.

Scott initially assumed the filmmaker might be calling about attending one of his shows. Instead, Nolan surprised him with an offer to join the movie.

Scott Initially Had Doubts

Caught off guard by the proposal, Scott questioned whether Nolan fully understood his background as a musician. According to the rapper, the director responded with a detailed explanation of why he believed Scott was right for the role.

Scott ultimately accepted the opportunity, describing Nolan as a mentor and saying he was ready to support the filmmaker’s vision however he could.

In The Odyssey, Scott plays Demodocus, the bard who helps introduce and narrate Odysseus’ journey. His character appears in the film’s opening scene, making Scott the first voice and face audiences encounter.

Scott admitted that he felt extremely nervous during filming, especially after discovering he would be working alongside established actors including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson. However, he praised the cast for making the experience welcoming and supportive.

Nolan explained that Scott’s casting reflects the origins of Homer’s story as oral poetry. The director saw a connection between the way ancient epics were performed and passed down through generations and the storytelling traditions found in modern rap music.

Scott Also Contributed to the Soundtrack

Beyond his acting role, Scott contributed the original song When I’m Home for the film’s closing credits. He collaborated on the track with James Blake and composer Ludwig Göransson, while Nolan is also credited as a co-writer.

The Odyssey is now playing in cinemas, giving audiences the chance to see Travis Scott make his unexpected entrance into Christopher Nolan’s latest cinematic epic.
