All To Know About My First of May 無名指

My First of May (無名指) is a 2025 Hong Kong family drama directed by James Hung (孔令政). The film stars Aaron Kwok, Natalie Hsu, Gigi Leung, and Pau Hei-Ching, bringing together both established and emerging talent. It runs about 90 minutes and focuses on themes of illness, broken families, and reconciliation.

The story follows Tang Suk Yin, a former squash champion whose life unravels after his daughter is diagnosed with a rare muscular disease. Years later, when she unexpectedly survives into her teens, he must confront his failures as a father and attempt to rebuild their fractured bond.

Audiences have noted that the film leans heavily on emotional beats. Some praised Natalie Hsu’s performance as the daughter, describing her as the emotional core of the movie. Others felt that the script relied too much on dialogue-driven conflict and familiar melodramatic turns.

The My First of May Chinese movie has screened at festivals such as CinemAsia and the Netherlands Asian Film Festival. While its sincerity resonates with some viewers, others point out its reliance on clichés and uneven pacing. Still, the film highlights generational struggles and the resilience of family ties in the face of hardship.

Cast And Characters Of My First of May 無名指

The film brings together a strong ensemble of Hong Kong talent, led by veteran stars and rising newcomers. Each role contributes to the emotional core of a story centered on illness, family strain, and reconciliation.

Aaron Kwok (郭富城) plays Tang Suk Yin, a once-promising squash champion whose career ended abruptly. Years later, he struggles with his failures as both an athlete and a father, forced to confront his past when his estranged daughter reenters his life.

Natalie Hsu (許恩怡) portrays Tang Chi, the daughter living with a rare degenerative illness. Despite limited physical ability, her subtle expressions and restrained performance anchor the film’s emotional weight, making her one of the standout presences on screen.

Gigi Leung (梁詠琪) appears as Elaine, Suk Yin’s wife and mother to Tang Chi. Her role highlights the quiet resilience of a caregiver, balancing compassion with the exhaustion that comes from years of sacrifice.

Paw Hee-Ching (鮑起靜) takes on the role of the grandmother. Known for her sharp delivery and grounded performances, she adds both warmth and tension to family interactions, often providing the blunt truths others avoid.

Patrick Tam Yiu-Man (譚耀文) rounds out the main cast with a supporting role that intersects with Suk Yin’s struggles. Though not the central focus, his presence adds narrative texture and an external perspective to the family’s challenges.
